Chippewa American Indian Beaded Bag
Item# 12483
Circa 1925
10 1/2" high by 9" wide
This is a beautiful example of a Chippewa beaded bag. It was made about 1925 and has an overall beaded rose pattern on the front. The interior is a cotton poppy themed material. The back is stitched heavy cotton.
There are buckskin handles, one of which is broken. The fabric trim has disintegrated. Tiny memories of ribbons remain.
The beaded front of the bag is in excellent condition and features an opaque pale blue background with a triple row of pink bead trim. The roses are pink and red opaque and iridescent on one rose and orange with black and gold trim on the second rose. There is also a red bud. The leaves are variegated green. The beads are sinew sewn and lane stitched.
It is a beautiful piece of excellent workmanship and shows pride. An exceptional piece of American folk art.
