Yakima Native American Beaded Bag
Item# 12484
Circa 1890
12 1/2" high by 10 1/2' wide
This is a stunning Yakima American Indian beaded bag with buckskin handles. The beads are sinew sewn with opaque beads in a tulip pattern. The turquoise blue background is lane stitched with a beaded self boarder. The entire front is beaded with yellow tulips trimmed in several shades of blue with green foliage, stems and leaves.
It is in pristine condition ready for any museum quality collection. The back is a stitched heavy maroon cotton fabric that shows fraying. The interior of the bag has a blue plaid cotton on one side and a blue floral on the other. The buckskin handles appear to have been replaced.
This is one of six exquisite and pristine Native American beaded bags I have listed at this time. They come from a major New York estate and are being sold along with numerous Edward Sheriff Curtis photogravures.
This bag is folk art at it's best. There is not a single missing bead which is amazing for it's age.
