Circa 1900

12″ long, 2″ tall and 7¼″ wide

This is an exceptional Arts and Crafts period hand wrought pewter bowl. It measures 12″ long, 2″ tall and 7¼″ wide. The bowl has little curved feet and mismatched handmade handles typical of the period.

The bowl’s edge is unevenly curved with protruding waves and flowers. What makes this pieces so special is a deeply embossed and hand hammered interior which features a beautiful woman being kissed on the lips by a cherubic winged creature. The details are as fine as a painting. Each detail is in high relief including each strand of hair to the embellished wing. Standing up on it’s side the image looks like the angel is giving the maiden a kiss to wake her from sleep. His hand lightly rests on her chin. Although I have looked closely, no makers mark can be found. I would have expected it to be Orvit or WMF. I now think it is an artist original handmade and unique. The condition is that of aged pewter that is slightly pitted and darkened by time. I am sure it is about one hundred years old.

The family I bought it from said they had had it since Grandma came to the US from Austria at the turn of the last century.

Please ask questions before purchase as I consider all sales as final.

Shipping in the US will be by Fed Ex. Ground. Outside of the US we will use USPS Priority mail.
