Circa 1970

57" wide
53" long

4" thick

This is a one of a kind masterpiece buckeye burl table made by California artist Bruce Bernson. It is lathe turned and has been in his family since the 1970's.

Bruce Bernson was born in California on October 2, 1950 and currently resides in the mountains above Santa Barbara. He is self-taught on the lathe and has been a professional wood turner since 1970.

Native West Coast burl woods are used to create striking vases, platters and vessels. The beauty of the wood is enhanced by a natural oil and wax finish. Bruce exhibited most of his career at craft and museum exhibitions throughout the country. His work can also be seen in a number of galleries both here and abroad. He also derives great enjoyment from teaching and demonstrating the art of woodturning. He defines his love for the process simply: "Turning is action, it's wood chips... and it's very much alive!"

The artist has exhibited in the Smithsonian "Artist's in America" show and is published in photos in such publications as Lath Turned Objects, The International Exhibition Port of History Museum in Philadelphia Nov.1998 Also seen on pg 3 of the show book autographed to our Grandmother. The book will accompany the table at sale.

Articles in newspapers include the Union News and the Denver Post. Mr. Bernson is no longer a working artist due to health, but continues to lecture most recently in Ojai, California.

The table is in good condition but would benefit from a fresh layer of hot wax to restore the aging finish. This piece will need to be pickup and transported by a professional mover at the buyers expensive. I use Sterling Van Lines (800) 264-6313.

The table is in two sections the base and top but both are heavy. Own a piece of our family's history. From Mom & Dad house to mine to yours. Generations of kids and cats have stored pennies in crevices and stashed balls in the base. This is a very loved piece.
