Item # 13260

Circa 1930

9" in diameter by 4" tall

This is an exceptional hand painted Satsuma style pottery bowl that was made in Japan and hand painted in America. It is signed both Japan on the rim and Latham on the bottom. The bowl stands 4" tall and is 9" in diameter. The interior is painted terracotta color with a gold rim. The bowl has an all around stylized whimsical pattern of trees with birds and beautiful flowers. The colors are magical in their combinations and profusion. The trees have a green trunk with turquoise new growth and purple hanging tendrils. In each tree is a blue and yellow bird. The flower bunches in the trees are pink, turquoise, purple, orange and lavendar. The decoration is heavily applied and highly glazed on a egg shell background. The floral trees appear against a blue sky at the top and the base is heavy wide gold band. There is also black trim and spaces on the rim with Art Deco accents of red, green, yellow and gold.
